Compensation Manager

Position Summary:

The Compensation Manager is responsible for all aspects of compensation with the goal of developing programs that foster a great place to work. The responsibilities of this role include the delivery of high quality, timely, and accurate compensation reporting and analytics, as well as other projects as assigned.


1. Manage implementation and provide guidance to line and retail management on pay decisions, policy and
guideline interpretation, and job evaluation, including the design of creative solutions to specific
compensation-related programs such as incentive compensation
2. Monitor federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations in order to ensure company compliance
3. Manage the administration of direct compensation (executive, exempt, and non-exempt cash compensation
programs) for corporate staff including the processing, recording, and reporting of compensation-related
actions taken on salaried employees
4. Analyze the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, performance pay and incentive plans, guidelines,
and procedures recommending plan revision as well as new plans which are cost effective and consistent with
compensation trends and corporate objectives
5. Participate in and conduct both exempt and non-exempt employee salary surveys to ensure corporate
compensation objectives are achieved
6. Serve as the focal point and facilitator of the HR budget gathering expected expenditures, salary increase
projections, and any anticipated additions to staff for the fiscal year
7. Maintain and update the market survey benchmark data files while partnering with the Talent Acquisition
function to properly position employment offers

Working Relationships:

Position will work closely with members of the Human Resources, Finance, IT, Legal and Store Operations teams, as well as other internal departments and some external contacts. Interactions with all of these groups will be via email, phone, and in person and will require the Manager to inform, teach, persuade, and report information.

Minimum Education:
Bachelor Degree

Preferred Education: Masters degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field

Minimum Experience: 5-7 years in Compensation
Demonstrated competency with HRIS systems, MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
An aptitude for learning new technologies
Analytical Skills: will work with large amounts of data. Will need to see through the data and analyze it to find conclusions.
Communication Skills: Will often be called to present findings, or translate the data into an understandable document. Will need to write and speak clearly, easily communicating complex ideas.
Critical Thinking: Must look at the numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings and translate into value-added information for the business managers.
Attention to Detail: Data is precise. Have to be vigilant in the analysis to come to correct conclusions.

Preferred Experience: 7-10 years in Compensation

Licenses/Certifications: CCP preferred

Soft Skills: Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment
Demonstrates a strong level of initiative and accountability
Ability to think outside of the box

Physical Lifting (indicate Lbs), Climbing, Kneeling, Standing for Long Periods of Time, Etc.
